This popped up on the home page just now.

This must be a tiny bird. One of my favourite North American birds is the Spizella pusilla (Field Sparrow). I went through a phase of trying to figure out the definitions of the Latin names, I learned pusilla meant, tiny and the Field Sparrow is one of the smallest NA sparrows.

Yes, they are among the smallest birds. in Australia. I have banded these in the past and they weigh only 7 grams. A House Sparrow weighs 28 grams.
One other thornbill is sometimes known as the Little Thornbill and may be even smaller than this one, but I don't know it very well. This one is very common around here and I often see them bathing in our bird bath outside our kitchen window,
