Flea Market Oak Chair for $3.00

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

It's a dinning room chair I suppose, it's Oak, has claw feet and there is a paper label on the bottom "Smith, Day & Company chair manufacturers"
Does anyone know anything about Smith, Day & Company chair manufacturers or how to date the chair?

I'm thinking about 1900, but it's just a wild guess, could just as easy be 1940s.

The chair seat has a hole (like a cane seat chair would) but in place of cane there is an oak veneer slab with ventilation holes drilled in it. The veneer seat part is cracked and split, but appears original to the chair.

How do you date these things?

Thanks
Dove
