Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Imagine: 347 posts and we're still stir crazy. By popular demand, here is part 2:

And, for reference purposes, here is part 1:

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I forgot what we were talking about...was it gorillas at Zuzu's ?
Hedgehogs at pirl's ???
I'm so confused...

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Trout fishing in courtyards and building Arks along with catching trout without leaving home.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And JD has given my peace lily last rites.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

It was an honor to do it.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And you did it with such disgusting dignity:

"Sounds like toast to me."

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

He was being gentle with you!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ahhh yes. But not to the demise of the peace lily.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Rest in Peace, Lily.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I told y'all....Now you know for sure.

(JD, my coffee just flew out all over my computer.)

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Rest in Peace, chicken, that I'm going to eat tonight.

OK, I was so stir crazy that yesterday after getting an Annie's Annuals email with several items now available on my wish list, I just couldn't stand it and fetched my Mom and we spent 2 1/2 hrs strolling up and down the isles reading all her tempting descriptions. Of course I always go beyond my wish list, I get drawn in by terms like 'long bloom season, 'highly recommended', 'fragrant cut flowers', 'extremely easy to grow', 'not fussy', 'reseeds' etc. I didn't quite fill a wagon, only one of those nursery flats so 15 plants. I usually stick with perennials for the most part but bought several annuals this time for fast color and with hopes of collecting seeds for next year. My Mom called me last night and said she has to go back, there were several things from her wish list she forgot, LOL, no problem Mom!

Here's yesterday's selection:

I had just added this one to my wish list a couple of days before and was surprised that it was now available. This thread on the ID forum is why I jumped at the chance to try this:

I will repot these up into 1 gal. until the ground is dry enough to plant. Whoo Hoo, let the bloom season begin!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

And don't forget that daylight savings time starts again on March 8th.
That's just 16 days from now !

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

great picks sue.

I especially love all the blue choices. I cant wait to see how they well they due in your yard.

Omg its that soon for daylight savings time. I better start getting up earlier. The cool thing is it will feel like I am getting home from work earlier. I know that is lame

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Quite a few I've never heard of. Great selection, Sue! I love that viola.

I'm not a pink person, either.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Sue, much to my surprise (not!), you bought so many plants that are on my Annie's shopping list. In particular, I have to buy tons of Anagallis. It's such a vibrant blue and a wonderful accent color among other plants of almost any color.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I thought so too, plus who can resist "perennial blooms late Spring thru Fall and looks great anywhere, including hanging baskets."?

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I think stir-crazy season is officially over for me. Lali and I went to seven nurseries, a feed store, a pet store, and a grocery store today. Bought tons of plants and some great sesame seed candy.

At least two more nursery runs planned for next week and a couple for the week after that.

Hooray, we made it through another dreary winter.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ahhh, Zuzu....I said that yesterday, too, but then we went from 70 to about 35 in a 6 hour period, and I was right back to my winter doldrums again. But I did a little bit of winter sowing today, inside, but think I will wait for another couple weeks and sow outside. I tell myself I will not sow another seed, but every single fall I start the gathering thing, and every spring I sow. It's a vicious cycle.

And my dutch iris bulbs, I am dying to plant them, but the garden is so wet and muddy. I am not sure I am going to last till things dry out a little. You are so fortunate to be in that zone.

YES!!! I do have a bad case of zone envy, and I get it every single year. Happy March. Countdown to spring...20 more days.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

The ground's really too wet here for planting too, Sharon. So far, I'm just amassing lots of little 4-inch pots and gallon containers of things to plant whenever things dry out a little, but at least the nurseries have some exciting plants now. I love primulas and pansies, but I like to be able to buy a few other things too. Today I bought lots of succulents and some corydalis, anchusa, agrostemma, etc., etc.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning everyone
I love the markets this time of year, you can tell its spring when the forced daffodills and hyasinths and primulas show up,even in grocery stores.
Snowy days here still so the ground is frozen.
Im trying to keep occupied with anything in order not to plant Oriental Poppies too soon in pots in my garage for early cool period that aides germination.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Inch by inch, the dark (shady) 1/2 of my garden is getting more sun every day as the sun pattern changes. Pretty soon I'll be putting out shade covers for certain things. It's an odd area.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Dang it! I was just getting excited about March. Got up to a sprinkling of snow this morning. We have not had enough snow to fit in a coffee cup for years....ice, yes, but not snow. If it is going to snow, let it come, but good grief, just a sprinkle? This is so not fun.

So we have sun, wind, and about 3 teaspoons of snow for this new day of March. What is this, a meek and mild lion, or an angry lamb? Whatever, I am again stuck inside.

March can't even decide if it's in like a lion, out like a lamb.......I will not whine, I will not whine.....

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We're due for a major snow storm tonight, the heaviest of the season. Since I'm stuck on the porch cleaning, feeding, taking cuttings and boring myself silly it hardly matters.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

We have a winter storm warning from this system. Definitely "in like a lion".

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

So you folks who are no longer stir crazy better stick with us who are, and show us some pictures so we can look forward to spring.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Indeed. We're due for a Hannibal blizzard tonight.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

We're over 200 inches this year. But Friday starts three days of over 40 degree weather so we will lose a lot of snow. I guess the Tug Hill Plateau has had one of the worst winters in a long time, and they normally get 300 inches a year.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't mind it at this time of year either since it disappears fairly fast. If we have 3' it might hang around for awhile but I'll keep busy cleaning out closets.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My house is totally clean, including the closets and drawers. I did it earlier this winter when boredom first set in. Now I've got the website done, all the cleaning, and I'm really stir crazy. It won't be long, though.

I do have hyacinths blooming in the house. I started them outside in pots. Purple with a white stripe, and they smell heavenly.

Next year I really need to do some crafts.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I always have projects to do but though they're satisfying to get done they're hardly crafts!

How's the garage, Polly!!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Not mine, Pirl!!!! That belongs to someone else, and they can clean it. Or not, as the case may be.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm not a slobb.
I like order and neatness but I wouldnt solve stircrazyness(is that a word?) with cleaning.
We just moved in and I pay a couple to come once a month to do general house cleaning,if the dust gets bad inbetween we dust and vac.
Gardening is tough,I tread in stuff then we get out the Shark to scoop up mulch deposits from shoe treads.
I know I should have garden shoes but its just too much to take them on and off so often in a morning.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't wear special garden shoes either. I just scrape off whatever I can on the bottom step before I come inside.

I've had a succession of cleaning ladies (and gentlemen), but they only seem to do a good job the first time they come. It's as if they're auditioning, so they do their best. On subsequent visits their work deteriorates. If they're paid by the hour, they're suddenly slow as molasses. If they're paid by the job, they leave whole rooms undone.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have had the same experience and wont pay by the hour for that reason.
He is the better of the cleaners and his girlfriend doesnt know JACK about it, so he has to double check her work.
She doesnt dust behind things and doesnt move objects when dusting, she also vacuums but he is a wizz at bathrooms and she doesnt do a bad job on the kitchen, they miss a wastebasket now and then but those are minor things.
This is a big house,it's always taken them 4 hours to finish.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I had one housekeeper that was paid by the job. The first time she spent 5 or 6 hours working. By the fourth or fifth time (which was the last time, you can bet), she stayed 20 minutes and actually swept around the remains of a gopher the cats had just brought in and killed in the hallway. After she left and I was picking up the gopher guts myself, I had to wonder why I was paying this awful woman $75 a week.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

They sure do indicate when they are bored with the job.!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

When we kids were all grown and gone my parents were still left with the big ten room house and it was way too much for my mom so she hired someone to clean. She had to go up to see if the woman was still alive when she hadn't heard any noise from a vacuum or any footsteps in over an hour. She was dismissed and my parents sold the big house and moved to a smaller place not that far from where we live now.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I had the spring twitch the other day and cleaned off the deck in a T-shirt. This morning......
