That's a good picture, but I think it belongs in the file for the closely related Small Milkweed Bug Lygaeus kalmii

Yes that is definitely a Scarab, i.e. a beetle in the family Scarabaeidae, but there are large numbers of scarab species and I cannot see enough to attempt to identify the species.
