Australasian Pipit (Anthus novaeseelandiae)
Ken, is this bird also known as Richard's Pipit?
Yes Margaret. They have only recently started calling it Australasian Pipit,
Ken
I hope Richard isn't too upset about that.
Richard's Pipit (Anthus richardi, native to Asia) and Australasian Pipit (Anthus novaeseelandiae, native to Oz & NZ) used to be considered the same species, but were split a few years ago.
Don't think Richard (an early 19th century French naturalist) gives a toss, he's been dead for something like 150 years ;-)
