Anyone remember the Ledman Watermelon ? Can't find seed !

Sanford, NC

I know that Ledman watermelons were a favorite in the triad area of NC a couple of generations ago. It is a large, oval, very sweet, blackish green melon that was a favorite for the garden. It was not so popular, I think, in the markets because it had a reputation for splitting open when handled roughly. Any clues on finding seed would be great!

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

If it was developed in North Carolina, there is a heritage foundation that preserves some seeds. Start by contacting NC State. Never encountered it myself.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Found some:

Thanks, but I've previously been in touch with Cat at this greenhouse site. He said he double checked and all the ledman seeds were sold during his final sale in 2008.
