Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopacea)
These migrate here from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea during the wet season. The female is remarkably different in colouring to the male pictured here. I've got a few good pictures of a male. But the ones I have of the female are a little poor.
Do they fly so far? Why not post your good pictures to the Bird Files database?
The photos of the female are old, on print film (and buried somewhere in my store room). They weren't very good as I was trying to do it through the window. More recently I took the photos of a male but was able to get relatively close ao got reasonably good digital photos. I'll dig them up and see about uploading them. But yours is a pretty good photo of the male anyway.
Timor to here isn't really far for migrating birds, only about 400 - 500 kms. PNG to the mainland here is a lot less.
