There seems to be a few folks here who are interested in learning to drive. Over the years I've picked up some nice little tricks and techniques, and I'm sure others have as well. So I'll pass on what's helped me, and hope others will do the same...
One of the big differences in driving is rein handling! You've got miles and miles of rein, and your whole relationship with the horse has changed... you're not on it, you're stationary behind it. When the horse turns, the inside rein shortens a LOT! Feet of reins need to be reeled in smoothly.
So this first is a little technique to practice that.
First, tie/hook your reins to a fence about the width of your horses butt apart.
Hole the reins about 10' back, just like you would when driving.
Now walk back and forth, keeping light contact with the fence.
This picture is taken from one side. You can see how one rein gets shorter.
