White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica)
They are the sweetest gentlest birds. I always worry about them around my area with crows and cats. They are certainly much prettier than their cousins the Rock Dove, which is what everyone knows as the "city pigeon." I love their song. It's not really sad. It's as gentle and soft as they are.
I dont' see many any more. One winter the White-winged Dove showed up in mass, and they are around all the time now!! Since that time, I rarely see the Mourning Dove.
I'm surprised, because doves usually live in harmony with each other. They are sweet and gentle. I've seen pigeons and mourning doves, waiting, sitting, eating side by side. I don't know the white winged dove, but I have to assume it's as gentle. Maybe they switch off cities or something! :)
We have experienced a drought in the last few years, so maybe they came in from fields etc, to more food and water.
