American Kestrel (Falco sparverius)
Outstanding photo! I have only seen this very distinctive bird once where I live.
WOW!!! That is outstanding
Thanks, angele & nanny_56. They are a beautiful bird. I see them quite a bit on the eastern shore of Maryland. But, they are difficult to photograph. They fly away as soon as you stop or slow down the car.
What an impressive photo. Such vivid colours. I saw one of these a couple of days ago. Last year was the first time I have ever had one in my yard.
That is an excellent photo... taken up close? I see this bird has jesses on (not really sure how to spell that word)... is it your bird?
I love those little guys, and they are a kick to fly.
This photo was taken at an EagleFest at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge, MD. I get to photograph them occasionally in the wild but never this close. As I recall they had a female there, also.
Fantastic photo. The best way of seeing birds of prey like this is in sanctuaries where you can get up close like this. Thanks for sharing.
Superb shot!
I can always tell which images you took, linthicum. They are always the BEST!!
