I got this tree from e-Bay. It is supposed to be a avocado. I've never seen one myself so can't say for sure. It is for a Christmas present. Shortly after I received it I got two e-mails from other e-Bayer's saying they had also bought from this person and didn't think their plants were avocados. I'm going to be so sad if it's not because my friend has wanted one for years and I can't find another one.

I just read your comments on Plant ID. I'm sorry to hear you were scammed. It sure looks like an avacado though. Well, take care of it still and see what it may be. It's not the poor little tree's fault. Maybe it will be something nice.

Thanks. I am going to keep it and see what it turns out to be.
Avocado leaf margins are entire — smooth. The veins really stand out. The new leaves are thin getting thicker only as they mature. Maybe it's an illusion, but the leaves on your little tree look serrated and very thick.
From California Rare Fruit Growers: Foliage: Avocado leaves are alternate, glossy, elliptic and dark green with paler veins. They normally remain on the tree for 2 to 3 years. The leaves of West Indian varieties are scentless, while Guatemalan types are rarely anise-scented and have medicinal use. The leaves of Mexican types have a pronounced anise scent when crushed. The leaves are high in oils and slow to compost and may collect in mounds beneath trees.

Hi Bettydeee, I got it from e-bay. Here is what I posted on the ID forum when I found out it really wasn't an avocado.
Well I found out it's not a avocado. One of the others that ordered from this same person on e-Bay got the same plants as me and at least one other person. He was familiar with avocados and knew it wasn't one. So he posted his fake avocados for sale on e-Bay with the story and name of the person he got them from. She immediately closed her account.
I got scammed. I guess that's a chance I took. One of the others said pay-pal wouldn't reimburse them because the product had been delivered.

I'm trying to get my money back via Pay-Pal. So we'll see how that goes. Thanks for all your information. The leaves on my plants are thick and scentless. I am just disappointed because it was supposed to be a Christmas gift for someone who has been wanting one for a long time. At least I found out before I gave it to them.
