Do you do anything special to winterize roses like up north (hilling up soil, etc??)
I planted my grafted roses with the bud union 1/2" above the ground.
Didn't think I needed to hill soil or anything else, except temperatures have been fairly low lately.
Do you do special winter arrangement for hybrid teas in Charlotte?
winterizing roses in Charlotte?
about all I do for my roses is to cut them back to around 3' tall to reduce the amount of rocking back a forth in the wind. The roots of roses will get brittle in the colder temps and are prone to damage from rocking back a forth.
Around mid-march I cut them back to about 18" and topdress with composted manure.
I agree with ncdd..I do cut mine back during the late fall/early winter. They also get a natural layer of leaves which stays until spring. Other than that, nothing special. Kinda nice not to have to wrap them, isn't is?
