I try to insert native plants like Eryngium yuccifolium (Rattlesnake Master) in my garden designs. For more photo examples of natives (Silphium, Sporobolus, etc.) used in combination with annuals, tropicals and the like go to: http://www.gardensbos.blogspot.com
Designing with native plants . . . .
Very lovely work on a grand scale. Congratulations !!!
Your designs are amazing... absolutely beautiful, yet natural.... not formal/stuffy... I love the way you combine all of the plants.
Thank you so much. I appreciate the positive feedback!
Wow.

Adam, great photos and designs. I am impressed at a business embracing such landscaping. You must have been convincing.
I have been trying to work up some enthusiasm among my fellow gardeners for Rattlesnake Master. I had seen pictures and read about but never saw it in the wild. In spring 2007, I bought a nice specimen for $13. Less than a month later, I spotted one growing within 1/2 mile of our house, along the side of the road! LOL. I potted up the babies from my plant but folks seem reluctant to embrace it even when I describe it as an architectural accent. Maybe it's needs a new name!
Thanks for your follow up Cedar. I love Eryngium yuccifolium. There are several other spp. of Eryngium that mix very well with Echinaceas. Perhaps gardeners are intimidated by an unusual plant like Rattlesnake Master. It can be difficult to know how to use the plant in a garden setting. Hopefully my photo suggestions will help. http://www.gardensbos.blogspot.com
