Sewing cabinet/table

(tish) near Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Since my 1975 singer died and my DH bought me a new machine, the new one does not fit in the old sewing cabinet. I was thinking of how I could re-model it to fit. I liked how the old machine created a flat surface with the cabinet. I don't think I can achieve this with a remodel. What do you do with your machine is my question. I'm hoping for an idea I can use that I can live with. I really hate the machine sitting up 5" inches in the "air" to sew. Thanks! tish
