Aren't Amaryllis Wonderful!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

Before I joined DG & saw this forum, I thought all Amaryllis were the red ones you get before Christmas at the big box stores, you let them bloom & toss them out afterwards. WRONG!! After seeing all these, I though I'd venture out a little more, & bought a "Blossom Peacock." Here it is. It's so cute! For me, this is really exotic! This one is pink on the tips & white in the center. I also have an "Elvas" that will be white on the tips & pink in the center. I thought they'd look nice together, but the Elvas has sent up lots of leaves, but no flower stalk. What could be wrong?

In the attached photo, I don't know if you can see the little skinny white thingies that are coming out of the flower. There are about 3 or 4 on each blossom. What are these?

And how do you take such gorgeous pictures?

Pretty photo. I'm guessing that the white thingies are sterile reproductive parts. A lot of doubles have incomplete reproductive parts. Take lots of photos of Amaryllis, the more you take the better you get.

The more pics you take, the more you get to know them...Enjoy!!!
