Cities going green by growing food

I found this article very interesting and encouraging. It seems to have occurred to some folks that since people live in cities so should their food supply. It might catch on.

I was thinking that everybody up north has a gas or oil furnace and wonder if that CO2 going up the flue might could be captured and if there's any heat with it. I wonder if a small scale project like this might could make use of that waste.
