I planted about 200 Dutch Irises' bulbs 3 weeks ago and put about 1-1/2" of black Scott hardwood mulch on top of the bed. Some of them already grew about 1-2" high. What should I do? Will they die on the winter and come back on the spring and bloom on early summer? It's weird.
Last year I also planted Dutch Irises, but none of them came out until spring.
I am at zone 6. The temperature has been about 60-70 for several days.
Thank you.

Help please, what should I do?

I planted some iris rescue last year late in the season. they were not very big and I planted them and then mulched them. I was worried they would rot over winter. I was told by a very knowledgable person from this site. I ended up leaving mulch on till very late winter, once days started warming up i quickly removed it and they started growing and bloomed this year for the first time. some will tell you to remove mulch and put pine boughs on them to keep them from heaving. I am in zone 6 and as one older guy told us was in the winter walk ourt an check them if they are heaving keep some potting soil handy and throw some on them and step on them lightly then keep an eye on them. hope this helps.

Thank you Taj & Avmoran,
I think I just keep my finger crossed. More leaves came out. Weather even warmer, it 77 and 78 tomorrow. I hope they will not die during winter, of if they do I hope they will come out again on the spring and bloom.

avmoran...that is a beautiful flower, it looks like little butterflies!
It is a Bulb Iris and is not supposed to do well here,
We it is 28oF here this AM and the stupid things are trying to bloom in the fall
well they do that occasionally and I try to ignore them as much as possible
and they usually come back in Spring.
I just love them 3 years ago I started with 6 now have over 2 dozen
