a giant shrub

What is the huge shrub I see mainly in front of old farmhouses. (In Michigan anyways) It has a sideways growth habit sort of like a juniper only 6 feet tall and easily 12 feet in diameter. Shaped like a flatter, upside down triangle. A picture is my next step...

Conifer ? Deciduous? I'm going to take a wild guess here and suggest Taxus canadensis (Canadian Yew).
