When to plant canna seeds in Texas

I had someone ask me and I don't know. Can someone here be kind enough to let me know?

I bought some seeds last fall but did not plant them until spring. I don't have a greenhouse so I just put the seeds in a pot outside in Mar-Apr and let nature take over. I don't know if this is written in stone somewhere, I'm just sharing what I did and how I fared. They grew well but did not bloom, I'm hoping they will next yr.

Thanks. I just start mine in the house and then plant in the yard. They do well that way.
