I posted a question with a picture in the propagation forum, and someone recommended I put it here. I didn't know how to transfer it, so I copied the link. I'd love some advice on why maples don't drop sterile seeds, or why some sterile seeds can look identical to good seeds. A tree I collected from had 1 in 20 viable seeds, and half of those looked perfectly good.

Thanks.
question on maple germination problems
It could be a ploy to deal with seed predators. If a squirrel has to go through lots of apparently good seeds before it finds one worth eating, it may give up in disgust and go elsewhere.
