my favorites disappeared

Please help. All my favorites have dissapeared. But when I find the site, and go to save it, it aks me what folder I want to save them in? Then I get a notice that the folder does not exist???
Who do I contact for help?
I have a sony laptop, with windows vista. I don't know who to contact, or how to get them back.
Thanks for any help.
