Okay - heard from my friend. He said they look like immature shaggy manes. (Were they throwing spitballs?)

I have to admit - I know nothing of that kind of stuff but it sure is ugly! LOL
Victor: No, no spitballs in the traditional sense, in fact, no anything except the rapid progression from completely phallic to the slight umbrella opening you see from today's pic. Would your friend know if they are: deadly; poisonous; ,benign; edible??? DawnLL: Yes, my DH is a creative genius!!!

Fall seems to be the time for mushrooms... I've been searching the woods for mushrooms/fungi to use in dyeing yarn. I've been looking for Shaggy Manes, but I haven't found any here. Lots of amita ( the poisionous kind), and some that look like pancakes. This is a bolete that I found earlier this summer when it was really wet.

With all the rain this yr we have had mushrooms in the lawn the entire summer,mostly flat kinds.
oh my goodness... I could swear it was a halooweeeeeeeen joke... it was a hand with fingers poking out of the ground... love what your dh called them!!!!
OK, a mushroom walks into a bar.
The bartender yells "Hey! Get lost! We don't allow mushrooms in this bar!!!"
