I don't know, because I've never cut mine to the ground, but I think I can offer help in another way :0)

They root very easily in water. So, if you want to cut it down to the ground, you won't have to fear if you lose it. Most all of the cuttings you take will root, and you'll have tons of them.

Just remember to strip off the leaves on any part of the stem where it will be in the water. You'll have tons of them in no time
