Wildlife "live" webcams! Lets note them and inform!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Why don't we list wildlife webcams and if someone sees something happening, just drop a note here, some of the others who might be online at the same time, can also join...thereby creating some nice experiences! There must be live cams in other parts of the world?

http://www.wildearth.tv/home
(morning (12pm DG time) and afternoon (10.30am DG time)...game drives, when they drive out with a camera looking for animals....)

My computer doesn't like the plug-in they use . . . can't see anything!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Resin try downloading the newest flash player..

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

I have Vista, and they had a major update a while back that caused many of the flash player "stuff" not to work properly on my machine, so I updated. They also have a old flash removal tool. And additional tech. info on Explorer settings that might also be an issue. I have no problems now and I enjoy the site.

This morning, they got a leapard walking down the road, marking territory, drinking water, etc...from my own tours I can tell you that was very "unique", later the elephants and tonight buffalo at the waterhole and a lioness with a kill. The buffalo had oxpeckers-birds all over them, again unique, as you only see them near the Kruger. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Hmmm . . . flash, is it?

I've got that turned off deliberately, because it is so prone to carry malware and nasty (often porn-ridden) pop-up adverts - see e.g. this thread: http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37787

Resin

Resin that would be your choice. So many sites run flash based...I have never come across nasties and pop-up blockers sort out any issues with that problem. I am always searching for info on this or that, mainly succulents, never had issues...maybe I am lucky.

Saugerties, NY(Zone 5a)

I just watched the elephants leaving the watering hole. I hope to catch them later.
Great site, Thanks for sharing.

Its a pleasure...when I am watching, the thread will jump..I will try and make notes of birds, animals that we see...just great to share this amazing wildlife with you.

Afternoon drive about to begin....

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Night time at the water hole .. and still .. I watch and watch .. there are noises that I hear and am unsure as to whether it is wind in the very sparse trees, or air traffic overhead, or rain and perhaps thunder ?
Will drag myself away in a bit .. seems I have dishes to do :-(

Marilyn - thats nature...I could hear the African Scops-Owl, actually you can still hear one now. On the other site there was some action in the sense that I first heard lions "roaring" then seconds later Hyenas, and right after that Jackals, which only means one thing, the lions made a kill, either yesterday or early last night. It is interesting, I've seen this, once there is a kill, you get the others animals coming in, to do their part, and the Vultures are never far behind. I told my DW that I could never leave here, I would miss these sounds too much.

Lyndonville, NY

Have you lived in Africa your entire life? I know what you mean about the sounds, I miss the quail from when I lived in Florida. And up here, I love the window open and listen to the cricket bugs at night.

Debbie

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Debbie, its now 5.15am here, the windows are open, and I am listening to the birds waking up. Yes I was born in the Western Cape, and lived in seaside town, until we, DW and I moved up to central SA, Bloemfontein. My family comes from the dry karoo, where we still went at least 2x a year. I am 5th or 6th generation. My forefathers came to Africa in the 1709-1710's and moved inland over time to farm near a town called Prince Albert.

Lyndonville, NY

That is so amazing you know your families history so far back. It is a great gift to grow up with such knowledge, and to get the priviledge of all these animals and surroundings.

I am afraid I would never get anything done, but sit and watch what is going on with animals and such in the area.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Debbie if you are still there, we've got hayena's this morning...now!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

sorry hyaena..spotted with the femala lion...maybe some interactions....mmm!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hiya :-)

Not much happening right now .. but will keep the site minimized as I continue about with stuff ..

Little_Things .. I have relatives living in Prince Albert, SASKATCHEWAN here in Canada .. how coincidental is THAT !!

Here in Northern Canada the 'bush sounds' are probably what keep us going during the 'dreary months'. Lots of Chickadees, Blue Jays, crows and Ravens ...

Off to do some baking ..

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Marilyn, yeah that is funny...when I have time to sit down, I run all 3 camera's at once, just turn the sound off on 2, otherwise you gat all three going wild on you..LOL! This morning I had fun with the hyaena..not very often you see them especially interacting with lion..they really hate each other...very nice. There are so many birds going on these cams, I have soundbites on all/90% of SA birds...so it is so tempting to sit and try and ID, which I do, but I do not have time to do all the time...
Last night I heard the lions, hyaena and jackal talk to each other and knew they would be found today...

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Oh, by the way...Between 11-12am to 3pm (our time) is usually the lowest activity...hot, midday...the animal most active early morning, late afternoon....midday they sleep in the shade of a tree.(usually).

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Two nice kudu bulls at the waterhole..

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning, I am finally here. I had to get the kids of to school so I could enjoy my new "tv" on here. My son watched a bit with me last night, but we just had birds at the time and possibly a rabbit, was hard to tell.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

hi debbie...you missed the hyaenas...man that was nice!

Lyndonville, NY

I am disappointed I missed them. I would love to see that interaction. Seems pretty quiet there now.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

few zebra...it is about time for them to come and drink

Lyndonville, NY

So pretty

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

the kids would love that....

Lyndonville, NY

Is there a specific breeding season there? Or when they give birth? Here it depends on the animal mostly. I noticed so many young elephants yesterday, and the zebra there doesn't look too old either.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Elephant gestation is 22 months...so you saw only one baby...rest where at least 1yr. birth weight 120kg, imagine that!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Warthhog...hehehe...
Zebra...mainly summer, but can be around the year. Gestation 1yr, baby 35kg, weans at 11 months

Lyndonville, NY

We went to the Pittsburgh zoo this summer, they had two newborn baby elephants. One was just two weeks old. I felt so bad for the mothers though, being in captivity in such a small area...on display for the publics entertainment. The mothers were so distraught standing in corners doing "the sway".

Lyndonville, NY

Wow, that guy is big!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

I never go to zoo's...cannot handle an animal walking the fence!

Lyndonville, NY

It was very hard for me this time, and I thought a big city like Pittsburgh would have done better. I was very disappointed. I appreciate what some do with their breeding programs to reintroduce a larger population of certain species...but not a good way they do it.

Love those zebras at the waterhole.

Lyndonville, NY

Its a zebra hug, how cute!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

I have no problems with well-kept zoo's they have an important function as you mention, but I am getting older and cry in action movies..LOL! I love seeing things in nature, where they are supposed to be..just the human animals that need to learn about the importance of this...

Zebra is burchell's zebra...lines go underneath the tummy...there is in fact 3 species of zebra.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

This may be the Cape Mountain Zebra...see stripes not going to tummy...stops just before!

What is that bird making the noise? The cats here just went running! LOL

Lyndonville, NY

I never knew there were three different "varieties" of the zebra. They are so graceful.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

sorry...was busy looking for zebra pics in my files...missed it....

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Oh, the birds on screen is hadeda ibis...they breed in the tree next door...my dog hates them...
