Newbie to this forum with questions

Kansas City, MO

I am new to this forum and would like to know how to go about trading. I have some really nice cultivars and would like to trade with someone who might have some I am looking for.

Could one of you kind folks direct me on how to go about this?

Thank you,

Irisawe

There's a forum area just for that type of thing:

Good luck,

There is a plant and seed trade area but you have to wade through sooo much with no clue what they are about until you take the time to open and comb through each one. I want iris only. Is there anything like that??

I'm kind of a newbie myself but let me be the first to welcome you into this
group of iris lovers. There are a lot of very nice and generous people who,
I am sure, will lend you a hand or advice for any iris problem you may have.
My trading season is over for this year but I think some of the forum members
may have some left.

Most of the trading goes on in July and August because of the weather.

Commerical growers usually stop shipping in late Aug or early Sept so they can dig all the fields and replant for the following year.

Over on the GardenWeb is an exchange area for just trading iris.

This is extremely late as I am down to transplanting daylilies now, finished, siberians, seedlings, japanese, spuria and now on to the daylilies

Congratulations, Dee. Maybe you can get a little rest now!

Welcome, irisawe, we have fun on this forum and trade at the right time of the year. By the way, did you know that next year's American Iris Society Convention is going to be in Kansas City? If I were you, I would join the AIS and join the tour buses that take people around to the gardens. They are amazingly beautiful. See web site at:

You can attend the conventions without being an AIS member--certainly a great deal to learn about irises. the KC convention have material on the AIS web Warning: They are addictive!

__ members have or want this click that and you can see who has it available for trade .

To all that responded,
Thank you soooo much for all that info. The weather is changing here and I guess it is time to sit back and watch all this new growth. I know I am going to have to visit the convention and I bet that will be something special to remember. I should join AIS, as someone suggested. That is a great idea.

I have been growing TB's for 4 years and am a point of wanting to be more and more selective and less labor intensive. I also have a number of seedlings that may be blooming for the first time in the Spring. In other words, I want to have fewer beds but the best of the best in the ones I tend. Then add a few of my own crosses to that and I am content.

With very erratic Spring weather shifts in 5b, I find myself using tarps and going to the weather watching sites wayyy too much in early Spring. So, I want things to become more manageable. Did I mention the arthritis in my back? Well, that is pushing me this direction of lower maintenance, too,,,big time. So, it isn't volume but quality that I am now shooting for.

I think this forum could be very helpful to that end.

Thanks so much for all the encouragement, welcomes and advice,

Irisawe
