Any you Marylanders tried composting your crab shells?

Hey, so we're eating those 55 dollar a dozen beauties- first time this summer you better believe- and the kid says, so can you compost this stuff? Can't we get (little brother) to mash up the shells? Well, I know what to expect. I've been 'around the bin ' a few times. I'm just wondering if anybody's been brave enough to do it. I'm seriously tempted to take my dozens shells and assorted part stuff and bury it in the ground and then pile a nice big mound of my usual compost mix all over it and just let it cook .Think of the calcium!

Crush em up and use em, Sally! Excellent source of calcium, but do bury em. :)

Silly me- one dozen crabs leftover shells, put into a small hole and then chopped with a straight edge spade- makes a pretty small amount of 'stuff' Easily covered over with a big pile of lawn-leaf clippings. They smelled as much as the crabs.

Hey Paul- do you eat blue crabs? we hardly find them steamed and in shell when we go to Pensacola- We saw one place near Destin called Crab house but it wasn't blue crabs so we were disappointed.
