About That Overo Gene

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, so I've been reading a bit today. This is the first that I've had a chance to sit down and read...and I've only read a tiny bit...but from what I've read this is what I'm gathering...can someone tell me if I'm correct please?

First of all, any horse with a white "paint" pattern has some type of Overo. There's a few different classification of Overo, which makes this rather confusing, because some of them cause the Lethal White Syndrome and some don't. To complicate matters more the horse can have more than one type of Overo, but whatever gene is most dominant will be the one that shows (or it will be a complex patterning and good luck figuring it out). Some horses that appear solid colored can be carrying an Overo gene...it just doesn't show, but nonetheless it is in them and will show in their offspring, especially if crossed with another Overo horse (this is where the LWS really comes into play).

Ok, that's enough for the first post. Time for a deep breath.
