DIY Grocery Bags

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

For any among us who don't like plastic bags, here is an excllent write up on sturdy
grocery bags that can be re-used endlessly. I'm going to make several
with insulated linings for frozen foods.

Also today's paper carried a feature article about two sisters who
make "do-rags" for our military personnel in Iraq. These are worn under
their helmets to wick away perspiration and and a portion of it hangs
down at back to protect their necks from the merciless sun. One of the
sisters adapted the idea from the cotton caps she made for her husband
to wear under his hard hat in his oil-drilling work. At first they made
the do-rags from any and all cloth at hand but since some commanders
don't allow their troops to use any with colors or prints they are now
making them just from sand-colored cloth. There was no link for a
pattern, but it seems that the idea could be adapted for anyone working
outdoors in the sun and wearing a hard hat.
