This subject may have been addressed before, and if so, I apologize. Lately I have noticed more than one blue jay at our feeder that was lacking the familiar crest on the top of its head. This gives the bird a kind of "pin head" appearance. Does anyone know if this a genetic mutation or merely a sign of immaturity? Thanks for your help.
CLOSED: Blue jays without crests
It could also be feather mites. :-)
