Leucanthas..pink flowered form, white form

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okay, does anyone know where these two leucanthas might be available for ordering? Thanks..

They are probably getting them ready for production, but there may be a problem with their viability as a patented plant - probable low sales? As far as I know, they are still PPAF

The Navajo greggii series was dropped by Ball Seed, but may be re-offered under different names, but still as patent protected plants. The Navajo sages have not been released into the public domain. Stay tuned for further developments.

Here is a link to the ones that are available here in Oz with pics.

Richard,
I am working at a retail nursery and many of my suppliers are still offering the Navajo series of greggii. Would that be from leftover seeds or are they breaking the law? They are sold with proper labels that include the lettering PPAF. Just wondering....

Yes, I was going to say that also, 'cause I've recently bought Navahos. Annette, thanks, I figured you'd be getting them in Oz. I also cannot imagine low sales on either of them. As soons as you mentioned having ordered them, my head started spinning......lol....

Hmmm. 'Pink Velour' and 'White Velour', huh? Not Danielle's Dream...
AND 'Red Harry' ...I'm waiting for the photos to pull up on their site and now am really intrigued by Red Harry also....

Andy:

They should be authentic if they have the Ball label. My royalties are still coming in.

Richard,
Good....wanted to make sure you were being compensated for your work.

London, United Kingdom

The Salvia Navajo series are still being sold in the UK by a couple of nurseries. One of my local garden centres, Hilliers, had 5 forms on sale 2 years ago, but nothing this year. Probably a bit too specialised for run-of-the-mill outlets.

Re the leucanthas....the name of the pink and white forms seem to change. I first saw these 3 years ago, Dr. James Compton had brought them back from South Africa, I think...I may be wrong here. They were called 'Danielle's Dream', and 'White Mischief'. The intention was for them to be introduced here, but this never happened. Probably because our climate is no good for any leucanthas, they begin to flower just when the first frost hits....I no longer grow any leucanthas, sadly.

Then I heard about the pink leucantha being introduced as 'Pink Castles', in California, again I may be wrong. Now they are in Australia as 'Pink and White Velour'. I think that Sue Templeton may have got these from South Africa, with the necessary licence. But 'Red Harry' is quite new to me....have to say that the photo did not look very red!!!

Good luck to whoever grows these in suitable climates....they are great plants! Will there ever be a blue form???

I agree with Robin that the 'Red Harry' didnt look too red to me either, looking forward to the other 2 though. Leucanthas thrive here for me though they dont tend to set any seeds.

I've grown leucanthas since my days in Massachusetts in the early 80s, and they always flowered, even if it was late. They are pretty reliable in North Carolina, and do not set seed for me.
