I found these colorful critters on my hardy hibiscus seed caps. They look like cloisonne ornaments! I am not saving these seeds, however, their presence raises a curiosity as to whether they are beneficials or destroyers??
If someone could ID these critters for me, it would be most appreciated. Snug
Exotic Bug Friend or Foe? ID?
they would make great studs! (earrings)
Glad you clarified that, trackin!! LOL!!!!
I've never seen these before, but they sure are pretty. One way to tell if they're beneficial or destroyers, is to watch what they are eating. Are they eating the seeds, or the plant? Or are there some tiny insects there that have their attention?
Looking at them magnified a little, I realize that these are the nymph stage of some true bug. You can see the wing buds developing - yellow with black tips. That would make them sucking insects. Since there are several of them together at this stage, you can bet they are up to no good. They are probably seed eaters. But so far I have not been able to identify them.
that's what i was thinking. anything that pretty can't be good! lol
