Surprise Canna

Decatur, AL(Zone 8a)

I bought this Canna in Home depot a while ago as 'Liberty bugle boy'. Not only grew it much taller (5'), but now that it flowers, it is a totally different bloom. It's pretty though, but which Canna did I get here?

Turtlegaby: I got one that looks like that but have no idea what it is called either, I know it's not a Cleopatra as that one has bronze and green leaves.

I have one like this too, received it from someone in south Ga and was told it was a dwarf. It got close to 5' this summer. We've had some nights in the 30's here and I noticed there are babies coming up now! I still have no id on it ;)

I found out in the meantime that it's a picasso. Sometimes they have more red dots, sometimes less.

Turtle gaby: I have to agree with you there, I looked it up and that is what it looks like to me. By the way, the ones I got from you are doing well. They are ready to go night night for the fall and winter and then come Spring they will perk up and be beautiful. Can hardly wait. I will probably buy more cannas this January.

Hey Joy, I cut my Cannas back a couple of weeks ago when we had some light frost, but they started to sprout again....lol.
I also can hardly wait to see all my new Cannas that I got this year in late fall. So far I haven't seen any of them blooming, because the frost was early this year.

I plan to have as many different Cannas in my yard next year as I can get my hands on. I guess, I have apr. 40 varieties by now, but still am looking for some rare ones, which also includes Stuttgart. But i will wait until spring to make plans.

Winter is sooooo boring. I hate it. It will be so nice, when my Cannas begin to grow next year.

You aren't kidding about winter being boring! I've already started with the lovely sinus issues and nosebleeds from having the heater on.
I planted cannas in late summer and still see them hanging on. I want to try and find some pink blooming varieties for next year.
Thanks for the info, going to look up Picasso now.

Turtlegaby: You are right there, it's getting a mite chilly here too, and I will miss my cannas' blooms; but, it gives me something to look forward to in the Spring. You sound like you're doing what I want to do; plant all different kinds of cannas. LOL I got at least 80 of them already; but, can't get enough of them ya know? I'll probably be buying some from you when the time comes again, as the ones you sent me last time arrived in great condition and I got them really quick and they are going to be so beautiful this Spring. All the ones I started from seeds are doing well; but no blooms yet, looking forward to seeing those too.
