is this a canna? who is chowing down on it?

Brampton, Canada

Hi, I think this is a canna, they are planted in city flowerbeds everywhere with beautiful red flowers. I have no blooms, though it has grown many leaves, but they are obviously a tasty treat for some pest. I have used slug pellets to no avail. Thanks

Janet,

My cannas are under constant attack from insects. If I don't spray them weekly, the foliage starts to look like swiss cheese!

I see Seven recommended a lot. I use Ortho Bug B Gone Max - I find that it's a good all-purpose bug killer.

It looks to be a canna of the purpurea type.
