Any one know how to prevent squirrels from eating bulbs? I have a new garden planted with iris and am contemplating planting tulips between the rows of iris. My neighbors have all given up on tulips because of the squirrels consider tulip bulbs a delicacy and have at any that are planted. Any ideas????? Thanks a bunch.
Squirrel Problems
You could just put chicken wire or bird netting on the ground over the bulbs, that should stop them from digging, but as long as the holes are big enough the foliage should still be able to come up. Or if you think you might want to be able to dig in that garden bed or you have other plants around that don't die back, you could take the chicken wire and make a little basket around the bulb itself before you plant it
Thanks for the advice using wire or net.
I sprinkled some (just a little) well-used cat litter around my freshly planted iris tubers and a few other perennials that the squirrels had been munching on, and they stayed away after that. You could try that over your tulip bulbs after you plant.
