Vine for shaded arbor?

Stewart, TN

We just moved here (Mid-TN, zones 6-7) and I'm still experimenting. We put up an arbor and I put my usual gourds and morning glories on it, but apparently there is too much shade from nearby trees (the gourds bloomed but did not fruit and the morning glory did not bloom at all).

What would be better for next year? Cypress vine? What other vines might flower in shade? I use earth-boxes for soil so it is easily amendable. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Rebecca,
Some vines will grow fine in shade but may not bloom as much as they will in the sun. So, choose ones that the foliage appeals to you and they will brighten you shady spot.
Here is a short list of vines that will grow in the shade.

libellube, thank you so very much for the information. I will study these and pick one - the Japanese magnolia vine is especially beautiful. You are a good neighbor and thanks for the good deed.
