My mom is growing pumpkins for the first time. The vines are healthy and growing, but the blooms are falling off and no pumpkins are forming in their places. Full afternoon sun from the west, and she planted them in the thinly mulched garden bed in the front of their house with a couple of sunflowers (one died, the other is growing well). The pansies are blooming like crazy, but the gerbera daisies looked great for a while, and have since wilted away. Any ideas?

What you're probably seeing are the male blossoms. Pumpkins will produce a TON of male blossoms, but not as many female blossoms. If there are bees (or other pollinators) hanging around, as well as male and female blossoms, you will have a pumpkin eventually. A female blossom will have a little baby pumpkin on it where it's attached at the stem. The flower part is at the end of the pumpkin. So, unless your mom has something like this, she's not going to get any pumpkins. It's a bit late for pumpkins to start forming, now, but she may get a small one! What variety is she growing?
