Aristolochia raja

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

Another DG vine afficiando kindly shared seeds of this species with me last summer. I managed to get a couple seedlings through our long winter without too much trouble - spider mites thankfully didn't seem to care for them - and moved them into the garden in late May. I was THRILLED to see my first flowers today. Though only 1 1/2 - 2" tall, they hang down on long peduncles (I believe that's the term) and are very striking. A fun and classic example of the genus.

And one more showing most of the long peduncles that make them the flowers "float" in air.

Dear Erick, Aristolochias love you as much as you love them!

How long is the peduncle?

Hugs,

Hello Ursula.

How nice to hear from you! I hope you are well. The peduncles are 4" - 5" long. It appears there are at least a couple dozen buds still developing.

Erick
