2 fans too small to divide?

I bought some iris last summer and some of them have 2 or 3 fans now. Can I divide them and send the extra ones to my daughter? She just bought a new house and can't wait to put some plants on her big, sunny hill.

Hi iris lovers - I bought iris for the first time last year and would love to know when is the optimum time to divide: how many fans? What time of year? And where to cut? Should I be in a different thread to learn this?
