Saw this Clematis titled "Celtic Skies" in Michigan Bulb's fall catalog and wanted to add it to my DG Trade (want) List, but it won't accept "Celtic Skies" as the Cultivar. Does anyone know it's true name?
Cultivar?
off the top of my head it looks like a vivienne pennel or a belle of woking, except the sepals on the back in the other color, frankly i have never seen anything bloom like that consistently. it looks like an early bloom with the sepal variation you sometimes see on other doubles like the duchess of edinburgh.
if it bloomed like this all the time i would certainly purchase it. will check it out.
well, i just ordered 2 of them. shows what a sucker i am for something this different. hope it blooms true with the outer sepals like this. and i have never ordered form michigan bulb company and have no idea of their credibility or age of plants shipped. guess i will find out. if you are ever in my area, you are welcome to cutting of anything if you like to grow things from cuttings.
"Celtic Skies" is truly a novelty Clematis and the price reflects that! I've never heard of it before and it's not at C.O.T.W. Sorry, can't tell you any more about it. I would call or write to Michigan Bulb and see if they can give you any more information. http://michiganbulb.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_16324_A_Celtic+Skies+Clematis_E_
well. i can give some feedback next year as i splurged on 2. i rarely order one of a clematis that may be hard to get again....if it is good i will want a bigger display, if it is a small bad plant only one might survive! will report back on michigan bulbs shipment and plant size.
That's an interesting Clematis!!!!
Please let us know what size it is when you get it. I've never ordered from them either, but my first guess is that they'll be pretty small, but you never know.
Wow!!! 30.00!!

i am expecting a small root ball, barely big enough to be sold.but will photograph and post. it's a risk, but felt like taking it.
Yes pleaase let us know what you receive as they do not have a great watchdog rating.
