vine for shade

Kerhonkson, NY(Zone 5a)

Anybody know some good vines for full shade in zone 5a? Something I can grow up a fence that will fill in nicely and quickly...

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

I personally think this is a beautiful vine.

It is hardy in your zone too.

I agree with DanceyTx variegated porcaleinberry is very pretty = the berries are stunning.

I also like a related vine http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1509/ Ampelopsis aconitifolia. It is more subtle, but the berries are not as pretty as Ampelopsis brevipedunculata 'Elegans' I grow my Ampelopsis (both species in full shade in zone 4)

If you really want a vigorous screen any of the Parthenocissus would do. Kind of boring I guess. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/search.php?q=Parthenocissus

Ive never grown Dutchman's pipe but I've heard Aristolochia macrophylla does well in shade and provides a fast screen . http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55232/

I agree porcelainberry is hardy, but not very pretty - snapple45's desciption of it as the "kudzu of the north" sums it up nicely

perhaps your righ claypa. Anything that takes over is not good. However I do think the variegated variety is nice - and you must have at least a lttle admiration for the berries. I think they are like little jewels.

I'm kind of leaning toward the dutchman's pipe, I'm not familiar with it at all -- I'd have to keep it trimmed so it won't pull down the fence ... the porcelain berry seems too invasive -- in fact a neighbor gave me some and now I'm wondering if I should keep it ... I'm in zone 5a so things are not always that invasive here ... However after seeing how wild grapevine has taken over and killed many trees up here, I'm loathe to take a chance ...
