Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

It is probably time to shorten the posts downloads so here is a new Thread to start your interest to bringing or creating your favorite poetry. Please bring Yates, Longfellow, Burns, even Dickenson to the composters world here. Thank you. Steve

Bardstown, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for keeping it going! Those sumacs I was telling you about are really taking off after our recent rains.

Doug

Bardstown, KY(Zone 6a)

Egshells, grasses, rotted fruit
Last years leaves, coffee grounds to boot
Into the pile they all will go
A twist and a turn to start the show
Worms will come to eat our spoils
And leave behind the richest soils
These things we do for gardens' sakes
In hopes of reaping the bounty it makes

Doug

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

yay. Doug, where is Bardstown?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hi, all!

In fear of losing all the Poetic contributions, I just c/p'ed all the Poems in Word and will save them in my Documents.

Nothing poetic to contribute right now--just trying to get back in the groove after a 7-hr. jet-lag Backwards.....
I have really, really enjoyed all these ditties and Poems....

Gita

Bardstown, KY(Zone 6a)

Bourbon Capital of the World!!! About 30 miles S of Louisville, 45 miles W of Lexington. It's where My Old Kentucky Home is located.

Doug

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

I'm about 7 miles from the KY line.....South of Somerset.

no bourbon....dry county ^_^

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Nice Doug!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Each winter we gaze at the labor of intent
Of making our garden a most beautiful event
We clean and we shred our delicate friends
Into the compost to be renewed again
We who live where snow is the norm
Gaze on our pile through a November storm.
Just thought I would check if anybody is out there.

Yes Sofer we are alive, just gone dormant for the winter!!!

Doug

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Resurecting an old thread... and while I am not as poetic as those who have posted here before me, I offer this little ditty to the composting gods...

Frozen turds of chickie poo
And vegetative kitchen goo
With water, air, and brown stuff, too
Create a lovely garden voo-doo

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

kmom--

Thank you for bumping this up!
I often think about this Post--what happened to it!
I LOVE ditties---Now I have to do one back.....

Time comes and goes
And no one knows
Just where it goes....
Like--the river flows.

Spring will soon be here
With gardens so bare
But watch it grow
It's beauty to show.

That chicken poo
And kitchen goo
Will work on the soil
And lessen our toil.

OK! enough! Gita

C'Mon Folks! This can be fun!!!! Just write a ditty....

Glad to see this old Thread rejuvenated....
Read it back to it's beginning--there is some really good Poetry on the Pile in here.
Also--some fun stuff--like kmom and I just contributed.

Time in nigh
And with a sigh
To bed I go.
Letting the dreams fly.....

Gita

Winchester, VA(Zone 6a)

This could be fun!!

Cannot sleep
It's nearly dawn
Frozen tundra
Is my lawn
Dreaming of what lies below
Thirty inches of wintry snow
Beetles, worms and napping bugs
Sure hope amongst them are no slugs

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

shopping--
That is a good one! Keep them coming.....

Something we can all commiserate with....SNOW!

Gita

We're getting ice
NOT so nice!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I suffer in bouts of remorse
Only to wish to mount my horse
to fly and run through the spring revive
and watch the earth come vividly alive
as I stand tall on my mount
I view the earth's green all about
As I wish the sun to move
to the warm summer's latitude
I ride in the warm dream solace
as the winter storms still holds us.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

soferdig----You are IT!!!!!

Glad to see another one of your amazingly, insightful Poems!

Lets hope this "renewal" keeps this Thread alive!!!

There are Threads of hope
So--do not mope!
Read these poems-- so nice
And know that it will suffice
To know......
That love of all things is--
Eterernal.

Gita

Here is the link to the current Postings---- ALL shovels-full of additions are welcome!
Makes it so much richer.....

I now fall deep, into my repose
because my mind is to compose
the thoughts, of pleasant sleep
so I shall become complete.
Sleep is warm and filled with rest
As I remember all the best
Of my garden falls to mind
my dreams of them, so kind
My pictures of last years scope
Will improve the next years hope
I sleep to hold my plans of next
I thrive on work that will perplex
My garden, as Visa allows
the next year's gift with my plow.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

BUMP!!!!!----BUMP-----again........

Please take a note!
Of all the things people wrote!
In this Post and past ones
How great it all was!!!

How I hate to see this go
into dormancy--at least twice a year
Never to hear---.
So many great contributions--

Gone! into cyberspace
and no one will know....
Of the talents of those who posted
So many loving thoughts--they hosted.
In parts one and two.

Come on!!!! You all can write a ditty
And come up with something pretty.
It takes not any talent--just go!
just let your thought flow
To put down on paper--what you already know

Maybe---You're Poet
Just don't know it.....
SO! Give it a try
And let your thought fly!

No matter what you say
Will always find their way
Into someone's heart
Right from the start.

PLEASE keep this going
For--without knowing
You may just end this
loving creation
Without a notion
Of how great it is!

Gita

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Ahh Gita that is nice.

My Travel Home:
My motorcycle on and on I rode
Miles and miles in the cold
The scenery around me was superb
I was flying home with wings of a bird

Each mountain I climbed
Clarified my overworked mind
Each river, over the valley flowed
Bright and colored rocks to behold

Each mile I rapidly crossed
A head wind whipped and tossed
My body as it's branch and leaf
My mind was a tree, in true belief

The fragrance of the mountain firs,
The cottonwood blowing on the curves
Each tremulous vision of the Aspen tree
I easily became what they were to me

Solid and planted, a soul of the earth
New and fresh in each suns rebirth
My God today has made me clean
To travel on with His earthly blessing.

OHHH! Soferdig!

That was soo beautiful!
What can we do to get more people involved in this?????

Seems that every year I try
Without knowing WHY?
To get people to emotionally fly.

Free of thought
No worry about frought
And just be---
what they could be
If they let their minds be free.

To say in verse--long or terse
What they cannot express in verse
But know that it is OK
To post anything they say
And--it WILL be in great!!

Keep this going
For--without knowing
You may change someone's life
And lessen their strife.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a pile of moist, half rotted leaves crawling with little red worms and some roly poly bugs.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

AWWW---
Great try-Sally!!!!

NOW--Can you make it rhyme in some way?

May I venture to elaborate????

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
Shedding a pile of leaves--a lot
For me to collect and put to rot
And dig them deep
For my garden to keep.

To feed some crawling worms
And everything else that squirms
And some rolly poly bugs
That feast on my scraps
Hoping for the best and most
Taking hundreds of laps
Around my compost....

:o)

Thanks, Sally! Keep this going!!!! You ARE the literary type!
Please check out all the amazing contributions in Part #1.

You will be amazed!!!!!
May drive you a bit crazed---
But--you will be in awe
about everything you saw!

Teee...heee...Gita

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Compost me beneath this tree
so I might become that leaf in the sun
who flickers and flashes as the wind crashes
with each finger and vein of my redness proclaim
I thus now reveal the purest of my appeal
Of color, motion, memory and emotion.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

THose are two very worthy contributions!!!!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally---

We all were a lot more serious in this Thread's part #1.
Hope you check it out.......

Phoenix, AZ

I LOVE this post and will contribute when I get my thinking cap on!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Lets see serious: Hmmm

In the cool AM I walked in my garden
Flowers in the sun received long notice
Bright colors in the shade were ignored.
Much like, I thought myself, when I forgot
That moment of contact or concern to warm
Those who walk so close to our hearts
Awaiting it's touch through a simple smile
Or a thoughtful word that gives them value.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I had to search a bit to find the original Post of "Poetry on the Pile"....So you can all enjoy Part #1.

It was created by "soferdig" (Steve) on Oct. 25, 2006. Yeah! THAT long ago.
You can see that he also started this Post #2--in July 2008. Way up at the top.
Hopefully--a whole bunch of new people taking part and writing their "poems" will not take
that long to get to part #3. This is way too much fun!
Here is the link that will take you back in time--(2006)-- to enjoy all the talented offerings. .

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/941658/?hl=

Now--a bit further down, Steve also provided the link to the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra.
after a poem-Post about someone's cabbages....
It is hilarious and amazing!!! I am so glad to have found this You Tube video again.
Here is the link to this musical "masterpiece". Bookmark it! SERIOUSLY!!!

I am NOT great at this searching stuff----

Here is the link (I hope the right one) to the 2006 Thread.

If this does not work--someone help me--please!!!!

Gitagal:

It is your lot to find what is not
feel freed and continue this need
For without such skill we all would just kill
For the effort you have done in search of the pun.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Steve--

Would you mind going back up to your 1st. post above and editing it with---
"We came from here"---and adding the link in my last post--just above?

I am not sure if anyone else can edit someone else's Post, or I would do it myself.

It would also be nice if you vent to the very end of the 2006 post and linked it to this one.
That link is also above.
Any presentation of the words I searched with, "Poetry on the Pile" unfortunately shows as red....

Was there any more "Poetry on the Pile" Threads before or after the 2006 one?????

I know I am now getting anal about all this----Thanks, Gita

Not feeling good today
Do not want to "play"....
My nose is running
My eyes--watering
My chest tightening--
Cough....cough...cough....
No fun at all--I have to say....
Today......

UGH!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

No garden fun today
Gutters running
The sky - watering
The housework tightening -
ugh ...ugh... ugh...
No fun without a plant!
That's alI have to say, today.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9b)

There once was a man from Nantucket.
Who kept his compost in a bucket.
He lifted the lid,
Saw what the cat did,
And figured that he ought to chuck it.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OHHH! Daves_not_here....Too funny!!!!

I thought you will have something funny about Dave no longer being here on DG......The "Real Dave".....

I cannot believe anyone would actually consider composting in a bucket!!!
I would be filling a bucket once a week!!!

I fill a bucket almost every week with all the veggie scraps I use!
Actually--when winter comes--I still eat enough veggies and fruit to fill a bucket---
BUT--since my composter is dormant by then--I take all the fresh veggie scraps to the
Pet Smart right next to my HD I work at.....
They love getting them. I even sort them out in separate baggies,,,--do not just dump everything in one bag....

Soon--It will be time to start that again! I DO look forward to this recycling I can provide....

Gita

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

There must be a lot of people in Nantucket, there are many poems about them. Nice one Davenothere.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

There once was a Gal from Perry Hall (ME!)
Who always thought she knew it all---
So many people asked her for advice
She thought it was really nice!!!..:o)

Seasons came and seasons went
And so much time was always spent
Trying to learn all that was asked
Her brain became overly tasked--

She posted always what she knew
To try to help people out
Even though the advice was'nt new
The askers knowledge always grew---

The goal was always the same
To get the askers mind in a frame
To learn to do the best they could
And, in the long run, they always would---

Become great gardeners.....

Gita

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

You are a gift to those with questions Gita. My your learning continue to help those who are smart enough to ask. Thank you.

Help comes in many forms
it aids the moments of all the storms
of gardens with it's owners hope
to learn the entire scope
of growing the special plants
that others who wish, can't
the garden site created by Dave
that others who wish to know, crave.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Thank you, Steve!

I always promote DG to those that never heard of it....
I am like a one-woman advertising entity for this wonderful Garden Site....

What would I ever do?
Without Daves Garden.....
My days would be blue--
My plants would all poo---
And--there would be NO pardon.

Without the mental stimulation.
I would lose half of my friends
That always come to me
For garden information.....
Don't want to think about----
How it all ends.....

Gita

Me at my weekly spring presentation, every Sunday, from April till end of June
at the HD I work at....because my Manager loves me doing this and it helps our Store look great to the higher ups....
No one else has thisevent--because it is all MY creation....four years going....

BUMP-----

Hey, Y'all! Get over here ad do some mind-work....
Poetry comes easy--just think of the first line--and the rest is chickenfeed....

EX:

I would die for chickenfeed
And the poop it produces.
I would gladly plant my seed
In soil so rich
And it would so reduce
My need to
When things don't grow,
Their flowers won't show
SO? What else do I need??????
AHA! Chickenfeed!!!

Gita

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

BUMP!!!!

Thanksgiving is nigh-
The prices are high.
The turkeys all fly--
Away.....

My mind turns to thrift
If you get my drift
My fingers a-licking--
What's wrong with a chickin?

Please post some ditties so this Post won't die
Let your crazy thoughts fly.
Just think silly thoughts, and put them in verse
Make sure they rhyme--or it will be worst....
BUT--at least--give it a try!

Have a fattening, pig-out Thanksgiving--Y'All!!!
'Tis one time of year to let your diets stall.....

Gita
