but while out walking the dog a few minutes ago, I saw something that may have been a swallow with a bright yellow belly that was obviously eating flying insects. It was a smallish bird and I've seen them in groups of maybe 3 - 4 birds. Any clue what this could be with such a horrible description? Even if I would have had my camera, there would have been no way to get a picture, because they are rather fast birds.

That very well could be, Resin. I'll have to see what color it is on top. It seems to have the same characteristics of the Great Crested.
