I'm happy to say that our region 21 meeting of the American Iris Society is on August 8 & 9 in Ames, Iowa. Kelly Norris of Iowa's own "Rainbow Iris Farm" will be hosting it. As an AIS member, you can come one or both days. Judges classes will be offered.
Even if you HATE meetings, how about the PUBLIC IRIS SALE from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm?
Everyone is welcome! Many of us are donating iris to be sold, but I'll be there looking for new ones too!
At 2 pm, award -winning hybridizer Dave Niswonger will be offering " Welcome to the World of Iris"--open to EVERYONE--members or not! Free. Can you beat that?
At our general meeting, we want to discuss possibly starting a state-wide Iris Garden Society. Who wants to join me for a day or two of Iris dreams...
AIS Region 21 IRIS Meeting in Iowa!
Oh, I'd love to be there. I'm falling for these ladies!! But Dh and I will be gone right then. Decisions, decisions.
Wanda, I'd love to come, especially for the judges' training. but right now my $$ pot is near empty, and the one here in Region 4 was expensive for me. But I would love to hear Niswonger - would love that. But I'd be there if I could!
Where will the public sale be, Wanda? I might drive up to Ames for that!
Claire
I've already got my reservation for the weekend. I'll see you there!!
Here is an invitation from Kelly Norris/Rainbow Iris Farm to the AIS event---
I wanted to share with you an opportunity coming up next month that might be of interest. I'm chairing the American Iris Society Region 21 Fall Meeting in Ames, IA on August 8 and 9. One of the items up for discussion is the formation of an Iowa iris club, an official affiliate of the American Iris Society. Whether you're an AIS member or not, we'd love to have your input and perhaps your commitment to seeing a new organization off to a good start.
Not into meetings? Well this is more than just a meeting. We will start the weekend off at Reiman Gardens with a catered dinner and guest speaker Kathleen Ziemer, our friend and co-owner of Butterfliz of Iowa. She'll be giving an as always spirited talk on butterflies and butterfly gardening. Saturday is packed with all sorts of fun as Dave Niswonger, spuria breeder and iris expert, will be joining us to give lectures on spurias and an overview of the diversity of the genus Iris. The day will conclude with an auction of recent iris introductions and a delicious banquet from Bubba's BBQ. Oh and did I mention that a public iris sale will be taking place all day in the hotel lobby?
The hotel is Quality Inn & Suites 2601 East 13th Street Ames, Iowa
I've been digging iris for the past few weeks and will be bringing a large assortment.
Kelly tells me that 218 different cultivars are coming for the sale so far. Shopping time! :)
