baking soda and plants?

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Would baking soda kill off plants like salt does? I was thinking of trying out design by making it out of salt clay, but then I was reminded that salt kills plants. Here's the ingredients for another option I found: baking soda, cornstarch, water. The other option is flour, glue, shampoo, but plant friendly shampoo is expensive for the amounts I'm looking to make.
