After 10 months with no measurable rain we have finally gotten some in the last week or two and the desert is recovering.
I didn't recognize this plant that I saw in a canyon near my home. There were 30 or more growing on an east facing slope. Tallest was maybe10 inches high. Perhaps this is an old favorite that I just haven't seen at this stage before. :-)

Angele, I thin it is a Croton, but don't know which one.

Thanks Josephine. I had looked at some Croton photos today but couldn't settle on one. I was leaning towards C. pottsii .. very glad that I was looking in the right Genus :-)
