Just look at that colour! Gorgeous! Hey Niobe - how many varieties of clematis do you figure you have?

i have about 200 types. not counting RIP's ( rest in peace) which are ones that have disappeared, i hold the hole and marker for awhile..a year or two. like everybody else went crazy at chalk hill and have more coming in this fall. been at the collecting about 8 years. have had some years i don't add any and just try and get the plants in good health. perrins pride surprised me this year with the beauty of the flowers..but it has been very slow to establish. with decent flowering this year, i really like it as it is a matte plum color for me, it looks great with a white flower. i have it with clematis albaflora(herbaceous).

you have some beautiful clematis dawn. no one around me as far as friens is into them, o sit has been great to have the online neighborhood garden thing here at daves.

Beautiful blooms on "Perrin's Pride".

Here's a picture of it on C.O.T.W. http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=366 It's amazing how lighting, soil and weather conditions can make the same Clematis flower look different.

jeannes photo captures some of what i find different about this clematis color. it is a matte plum that is different and appealing. but jeannes photo shows that better than mine does.
and the slight recurve to the sepals on a long lasting flower is another form of the appeal .

shirley, those are great photos on cotw of perrins pride. they totally capture the essence of the "dusky" (what i call matte) color and the recurve of the sepals the more i think about this clematis, the more i love it.
my one plant took so long to establish..i am going to pick up a couple more and plant them in the same display plus layer a woody vine in the spring to make sure that this clematis is not ignored any longer in my garden. it blew my mind this year and i want to set it up for much , much more. i must remember to check out cotw more often.

Clematis on the Web (C.O.T.W.) is definitely one of the best websites for information and pictures of thousands of Clematis.

Here are other websites that feature different looks of "Perrins Pride".
