Question on Etoile Violette

(Zone 4a)

I planted this new one on my pergola! OMG she is blooming like crazy and I only put her in this spring. The question is - are the flowers on this one suppose to be small or is it just because the plant is a baby? I love the smaller blooms on it....I think they are only 2-3 inches across right now. TIA

They are smaller blooms than you see on the LF ones but they will get a bit larger with age..blooms are always smaller on babies in the beginning..

i have seen an amazing increase in the size of my etiole violette blooms the last two years. age of plant and my feeding program i believe. this plant is a heave feeder, like the president ..need good program including fall and spring basics as well as enriched compost 4 x is my program. same with my polish spirits.i was amazed at the size of this years blooms. here is one of my etoile violettes.

"Etoile Violette" does not have huge blooms, but as the vine matures, so does the size of the blossom. http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=26

i agree shirley. this year the size of blooms of etoile voilette amazed me from prior photos and prior years.
the old saying of sleep , leap and creep may disappoint t some newer clematis fans as it is year 4 or 5 for some for the total wow and then along comes a clematis like tie dye that looks so fantastic in year 3 i can only imagine how good next year will be.
and planting several plant really helps!
