I need to prune this clematis. It bloomed on this spring. Thank you.
Please help ID
Sorry I can't help you ID it but they sure do look pretty - love the colour!
Thank you Dawn. I guess i should have written down the name when I bought them when there were babies 3 years ago.
Wow, those are pretty!! Can you post a close-up pic of a bloom? What size pots do you have em growing in?
Debbie
hf young. one of the prettiest bloomers. i love it.
Thanks Niobe. Do you think it's too late for me to prune them now and will they bloom again in this fall? I remember that last fall it also bloomed. But it was not good as they were on spring.
Baja,
It's 14" pot with 12" depth. I do not have close up picture, but here is another one. Picture was taken on past spring. I was surprised with this year's bloom because on the previous years it only bloomed about 10-20. Actually the picture was taken when they already started fading. I should have taken a picture when they were on their fully bloom, which I got lots of compliment from my neighbors (smile).
at this point i would just clean up any brown, black dead or damaged stems, do a fall fertilizer and let them be glorious next year. you may get fall blooms anyway. the plants sure look vigorous.
are you going to put them in the ground? i am not familiar with your zone, which is certainly warmer than mine.
How gorgeous is this clematis ! I have to get one too.
From what you said it looks like it is a repeat bloomer. The main flush in spring with some flowers in the fall.
According with the experts they say to figure out the main blooming period, in this case spring and prune right after the flowering , You will lose some flowers in fall but it will give plenty of time to get the flower buds for the new season.
Good luck.
in my zone hf young does not repeat. i do not mind as the annual flush is so gorgeous. however, with established plants and good care i am always lwiling to be wrong and see some late summer action...this year, as others, no sign of that. it is so floriferous, it needs a rest i guess.
OK Niobe, I guess I will just clean them. It said this type 2 do not need prunning, so I guess I did not miss the session. Afraid to put these on the ground. I actualy have 3 pots before. One I put on the ground under mail box, which gets some shade, but it did not do well. Last spring it's only gave me couple bloom.
I had funny story about this clematis. First I only bought one small pot on fall 2005, right after I moved to US. At that time, it was blooming, few flowers. I overwintered them, put them in our unfinished kitchen extension with portable heater on. On Jan 2006 it 'dead'. I said to my hubby, I really love this flower, but its dead now. I was so sad. He said, wait for few weeks, they might comeback. I was so skeptical. What I saw was a dead vine. No sign of life. But he was right, its came back. New growth between the branches, I felt relief and stupid. Why did not I look on the internet that this plant will go dormant? Or maybe I did not know what 'dormant' means because I came from tropical country. The plants always green there, no "temporary dead" life like in the US. But I learned. LOL
Anyway, I bought 2 more plants on fall 2006 and did not worry when they were dead during winter.
Last spring was the most spectacular bloom. A reward for me):
I want to have other varieties, any suggestion for you the expert?
your zone is different than mine....but no matter what the zone, you have learned one of the biggees about clems. they take breaks and come back. some plants do it a lot , come once or twice in their life, some never (except winter dormancy of course)
" clematis on the web"is an amazing resource as are the nurserys that sell clems.
you will meet gardeners here on daves garden that know about your zone...seems like you have a knack for clems so good luck and enjoy!
where are you from? there are a lot of varieties from europe and tropical areas, maybe even some from your home country?
I'm from Indonesia. I didn't see if there is any Clematis in Indonesia. We also have poinsettia there and it can grow very big. My husband did not believe this tho. When I was kid we had one, it's about 10 feet tall. Recently I went to Indonesia and took some picture of this poinsettia. This plant about 7 feet tall.
Gardening in US is very challenging since you have 4 sessions, unlike in Indonesia everyday is summer. So it's less excited. When its spring nearly all trees has flowers, no leafs. This does not happen in Indonesia. I really enjoy myself gardening here.
leschinalutiana...country of origin , indonesia and surrounding areas
clematis on the web. nodding yellow flowers, pannicle style. prune group 3. check it out.
i too love 4 season gardening, mostly due to the different tasks and chores and of course, the season i need, the winter's break from it all.
Very good clems website. However I do not know which clem did you mean. What is the name ?
Thx
in the database put in indonesia in country of origin, no other info entry needed and one clematis pops up, the one i mentioned. it is from there.
I found it. They pretty as you said.
I have never seen that before. I will pay full attention and ask people there when I go to Indonesia hopefully next spring/summer.
cool. bring back cuttings! i am sure you can not do this and am only kidding.
i have found some wild ternaflora a mile or so from my house by a river and i felt like dan hinckley when i did..so much joy..even those these are not a new version it was a cool experience. good luck looking for them in the wild there if you can!
Kidding could be serious, lol. But I do have turmeric plant that most of people only use their tuber in powder form. In Indonesia we use the leaf for cooking curry like what people use with lemon grass. This turmeric was in my bag when I was travelling in Indonesia and I forgot to take it out before I return to Indonesia. So I tried to plant it and it's grow. Now I have turmeric plant! I will try to overwinter them.
When I was in Indonesia, my sister and friends mentioned about plant which is now very popular in Indonesia. They said it's originally from US. Also said that plant is very expensive, However I did not have a chance to see that plant. It said this plant like lamb's ear. No flower just leafs. Does it ring any bells to you what plant it is?
betra, I think your clematis is "Cezanne." http://www.raymondevisonclematis.com/main/home.asp

Thanks Revclaus. I will make sure when its flower again this fall (I hope) or next spring.
betra -- thanks for posting this. I was just getting ready to post my own request to help id a clematis that I have. I have no idea when it was planted or anything else since it was here when I bought my house almost 2 years ago. I think from what I've seen in your thread I have the same one. Hopefully you or revclaus can tell me if the center on this one is the dark red/purple because it's a very young bloom. I have one larger flower that does not have this color center and it looks like your picture and the one on the Raymond Evision website. From reading the description on the link she provided mine has the same characteristics as far as height, etc. Unfortunately mine has only a couple of flowers on it right now, but earlier in the season it was covered with these georgous flowers.
Betra, Your clematis are striking. Do you have clematis planted against the privacy fence shown in the picture? It looks like the perfect backdrop to show them off. You must have a very green thumb. Good luck with your turmeric. I grew some in FL and was delighted with the lovely flowers. I've just started growing clematis. If I can do only half as well as you have, I'll be thrilled.
Pam
pm1kw. I think what I have is pf young. Cezanne have yellow center, but mine kind of white. I am trying to look which type of prunning the cazanne falling into. HF Young is type 2. Lucky me, I had never prune them as what the type 2 suppose to be. If I did, I might have ended with no bloom.
Mine is not blooming now, perhaps they will do on next fall. The full bloom is on late spring.
Thanks Pam. I put them on the deck.
Taking about green thumb, that what people always saying to me. 'now my head grow even bigger' lol. You are welcome to see my garden blog. I put the picture of the house before and after I move here and start gardening.

The garden is a bit messy
Pam,
I have never seen turmeric blooming. I grow them for the leaf to be used for cooking curry.
betra, I looked at your photos on your blog. You have a green thumb! Everything looks wonderful.
Thanks revclaus.
The compliment encouraged me to do better.
