How to prune a vine to make a tree from it?

Have a Rangoon Creeper. Have seen it pruned over time so there are one or two trunks and then branches off of the trunks. How does one isolate the trunks?

first... get a vision.. then remove anything that doesn't confirm to your vision.. do it slowly.. and constantly.. pretty soon you and the plant will be working together.. it will be filling out weak spots in it's growth..aera Gordon
