Star of India

(Zone 4a)

This is my Star of India - I can't tell much difference between this one and the Jackmanii - can you? Maybe a bit more reddish???

Wow Dawn, That wall of Clems is just unbelievable, I love the color combinations. I don’t know much about clematis so I can’t tell on from the other without a name tag. I just wanted to tell you how nice they look.

Thanks so much Donna...I guess I should have posted what they were...

Starting from the left

Purple - Jackmanii
Pink - Comtess de bouchard
Purple again - The President

Thanks for the names, I have the President but he's just a baby in a pot this year.

I think you will be VERY happy with The President! I have 2 and they have always done very well for me!

Delaware, OH

dawn, a beautiful mature display....gorgeous. that's the way i like em and i guess the reason we all grow them! just beautiful. awesome.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Your wall of Clematis is absolutely stunning! Something that we all aspire to!

Your "Star of India" is lovely and I like that you also captured the reverse side of it too. That is something that should be shown more often....IMHO.

Bensenville, IL(Zone 5a)

Your wall is beautiful. The color combinations look really nice together. I especially love the color of The President, a liitle blueish color in there. All your clematis are doing very well!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Your "Wall" is magnificient!!..Well done...Jeanne

Thanks so much folks - your compliments mean a lot to me since I know most of you are such great gardeners! And of course I think my clems looks so great due to all the information you people have given me on how to care for them!

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Dawn, that is just beautiful!

Delaware, OH

star of india, while hardy is not as vigorous as jackmanii. nice blooms, but for me i doubt it will ever be a star in terms of size. so plant it in a combination where you can enjoy it and not expect too much. that way it will exceed your expectations!
that one in the pic does look like a more vigorous plant than mine however. mine is with c. bouchard and multiblue.

Denton, TX(Zone 7b)

Dawn, your wall is gorgeous! I want one!

(Zone 4a)

I have to disagree Niobe - at least where I am. This is her second year and she is covered in blooms - if I didn't have her trailing across the fence right now I am sure she would be between 8-10 feet tall! Amazing!

Delaware, OH

i will have to give mine some extra tlc and evaluate her location, maybe i am not bringing out her best! or she may be a poor clone.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Dawn..that just goes to show that clematis will perform differently for different people in different zones/areas of the country....

Delaware, OH

i agree. and also some strains or clones have different strenghts, immunity and habits as more and more plants were grown and then used for cuttings/propagtion. if you really want a certain clematis you can always try anther one from a different source and may see differences in plant or flower or have better results due to the differences.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

I have Star of India, and it has performed beautifully year after year. Love it!

(Zone 4a)

I guess this one isn't common? Not sure. I should post a new pic of mine - it is still going crazy since this thread started....I wish I had planted this one on my pergola!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

It doesn't appear to be a common variety. Of course, that will vary from region to region. Please show us more pictures of this lovely "star".
